"Practice like this is the game! You've got to sell the drill!" says Coach Kevin McMahon. This basketball drill, courtesy of Auburn University's Tiger Camp, takes athletes through the fundamentals of setting the screen, including footwork, coming off the screen, and making the jump shot. "Set your man up. Plant. Hard off the screen. Catch the basketball! Now, square to the basket! EXPLODE up and down through the jump shot." This drill will get athletes moving in the right direction - toward a winning score!

basketball Coaching Basketball: Catching and Shot Fake Fundamentals Coaching Basketball: Catching and Shot Fake Fundamentals

It's great to have a basketball player who knows how to shoot. But shooting skills won't help much during team play if an athlete can't catch the ball. Donald Green, Assistant Basketball Coach at Auburn University, begins this series with the fundamentals of catching the basketball. Starting with the correct catching stance, athletes learn how to step into the basketball to maximize momentum for the action that follows. What follows in this series is the Shot Fake. Coach Green demonstrates the Shot Fake technique and the moves needed to get past the defender and into attack position. The Shot Fake may have the defender off balance, but your team will be right on target with these moves.
